New Rode NT1a mod from Michael Joly

Michael_Joly_NT1a_mod4

From Michael Joly:

I've completed an intense period of R&D and now have a new modification for the RODE NT1a - new, more open-area "67 / 87" style headbasket and MJE-K47 capsule. Sounds righteous with that low noise (5 dBa) circuit in this mic. No more sizzle, just classic midrange punch.

AEA R44CE & R44CXE Reduced Cost R44C Ribbon Mic NAMM ’10

R44CE

-NEW-
R44CE & R44CXE

Think of it as the cost effective 44

How is it different than the classic AEA R44C ?

The new CE and CXE have simplified black and satin-silver exteriors. Their sound is the same as our 44C and CX classic Big-Ribbontm microphones. The CE replaces the CNE, our 2001 NAMM 100th anniversary model.

Cushion Mount: The CE cushion mount is machined from a single piece of aluminum and black anodized. The original R44C cushion mount is made from six pieces of hand-polished, bright plated and hand-assembled brass.

Yoke: The CE yoke is round-edge steel with a silver-satin finish. The AEA R44C yoke is a bronze investment casting that is bright polished and plated. It is identical to RCA’s zinc casting but is stronger and lasts much longer.

Grill: The perforated brass grills on the R44CE and the R44C are the same.

The R44C is bright polished and plated where the R44CE is satin finished.

Cable: Accusound Studio Pro Quad is used on the 44CE. The R44C uses the new Accusound Silver Triplex cable with a black cloth cover.

Transformer Case: Mechanically the cases are the same. The CE finish is all black with an epoxy logo front and rear. White for standard, and red for the high output CXE. The R44C case is the hand polished 1936 Streamline-Moderne Radio finish, black badged for standard and red for high-output.

Price: R44CE $2,800.00, R44CXE high-output $3,300.00. Price includes a 44VC case for protected shipping and vertical storage, and an extensive manual. AEA’s R-Series includes the classic R44C and high-output CX, the medium-distance R84, the stereo R88, the close-up R92. The active A-Series are the super-quiet A440 and the A840, use-with-any-preamp, Big-Ribbontm.

TELEFUNKEN Introduces New R-F-T AR-51 Tube Microphone

TFunk_AR-51_System_web

Anaheim, CA, January 14, Winter NAMM — TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik's Winter NAMM product introduction is the new AR-51 large diaphragm tube condenser microphone. The AR-51 is TELEFUNKEN's latest addition to its affordably priced R-F-T line of tube mics.

The AR-51 is designed in the tradition of the classic mics of the past, utilizing the same circuit design as the classic TELEFUNKEN ELA M 251E. The AR-51 employs new cost-efficient manufacturing methods to meet a price point suitable to any recording studio, from major World Class facilities to voiceover rooms and home project studios. The new R-F-T AR-51 utilizes only premium components, including a vintage New Old Stock (NOS) tube that has been rigidly tested for noise and microphonics, as in the ELA M 251E. The AR-51 also features a globally-sourced power supply and capsule, both rigorously tested prior to installation.

As with all products in the R-F-T range of TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik microphones, the circuit board has been designed for superior current handling, permitting the amplifier to have full access to the necessary "power on demand" for handling low frequency and transient information. Modifications have been made to the amplifier circuit to optimize the performance of the capsule and a signal path that includes the same European manufactured output transformer found in every ELA M 251 E built since 1960.

At the TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustic studios in South Windsor, CT, audio engineers have successfully tested a wide range of applications for this new large diaphragm microphone. The microphone is especially suitable for recording acoustic and electric guitars, piano, percussion, for drum overheads and close miked drums, as well as for both male and female vocals. The perfect complement to the company's acclaimed AK-47, the AR-51 is a significant addition to any studio's microphone locker.

Hear the new AR-51 and the entire TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik collection at Winter NAMM, Booth 1868, Hall E.
