The Urei LA-4 has selectable ratios of 2:1, 4:1, 8:1, 12:1, and 20:1. The primary controls both have a stacked-pot design: Threshold/Ratio on the left and Output Level/Meter on the right. Compared to the LA-3A, these controls are reversed, making them more similar to an 1176. Stereo switchable via the faceplate switch."

It has premium components throughout including:Vishay dale resistors, Wima Caps, Honeywell conductive plastic potentiometers ( I see a lot of clones with cheap pots, take note!) and Bourns Trimmers (see list below).The unit also has the stereo link function for buss compression or compressing stereo sources

This auction is for (1) UREI LA-4 Opto compressor that is in good shape, works perfectly, was just re-capped, calibrated, and has balanced 1/4 inch inputs and outputs for more modern interfacing......It has also had the input and output stages modified by our techs with Burr Brown opamps!! and gives the unit an even fuller,more detailed three dimensional sound...The unit offers switching between 110 and 220v for folks outside of the US. This unit is clean with some minor wear with little surface scratches around the unit but looks good overall."

"Here you have another pair of these: the classic UREI/Universal Audio vintage silver face LA-4A compressor/limiters. The silver version replaced the black ones which in turn were successors to the much vaunted LA3A.This pair is in Near Mint condition, is fully tested and adjusted and comes with a full 30 day warranty. They have no major flaws and have just been tested and calibrated.
This is the unit that replaced the LA-3A in the UREI product line. It was one of the first to feature adjustable compression ratios, from 2:1 up to 20:1. It features the smooth sound of optical compression. This pair is from the late production of the LA4A (around 1987/88), as they have high serial numbers and single color fronts. The serial numbers are 10718A and 10974A."
