TAB V76/120 tube mic preamp (V72 U73) mint US $3,250
Up for auction is a very rare and beautiful vintage german broadcast tube preamp made by TAB. It is seller refurbished, the caps are renewed and it comes with a connector and pinout diagram. It has a 220V input and should be run at exactly 220V to keep the tubes alive for a longer time. If you are interested in a rack housing, get in contact with us.
About TAB:
The company TAB (Tonographie Apperatebau Wuppertal) built the most famous tube preamps ever. The V72 / V76 preamps and the U73 tube limiter are highly sought after and prices are constantly rising. The Beatles were using the V72 heavily in the Abbey Roads Studio and many others did the same. While the V72 had a fixed gain of 34dB and no control or filters on the frontplate, the V76 was two V72 modules cascaded in series with additional control features. The unit is capable of achieving 76 dB of gain and driving a signal farther than a V72 with little to no loss. Also, the unit comes with a switchable input pad. This allowes the user to change the gain in 6 dB steps across 12 positions- much more control than the V72. Many engineers prefer the V76 to the V72 due to the controls, increased gain and huge bass sound that it delivers.
This V76/120 with ser.-no. 4990 was checked, serviced and RECAPPED. It is in perfect technical condition. We measured the module afterwards and all values are very good. If you need a rack, a breakout cable or other V series modules, get in contact with us. We do have V72, V72a , v72b, V77 and V78 in stock. Also we have one pair of U73 tube limiters, which are even rarer, since every desk only had one stereo pair installed, but many V72 and V76 amps.
Here are the specs we measured:
V76 #4990
81,2 dB
0,011 %
-1,5dB / +0,5dB
ok 3-76 dB
Filter o.k.
If there was an "audio hall of fame" these units would have earned a place next to the Neve 1073, 1081, the Urei 1178 1176 or a Neumann U47 or AKG C12.
