"1976 JH114 Transport w/ JH16 non-Quior audio
Hey I posted this in the listing so don't thin I was lecturing you.
thanksThe machine is in great condition
I have no idea how many hours are on the heads
It is a 24 track head stack, and does not come with a 16 track stack
I only needed 16 tracks on the record i just recorded with it, so I used tracks 5 - 21 [i wasn't sure and didn't have time to findout if they needed relaping}
This is a 1976 MCI which means it needs a lot of tinkering with.
I did all the work to get it ready for my session with a tech in Nashville via scype. {Stephen Sadler great guy}I'm selling it AS IS because it will need some work {MCIs All Ways Do}
But that work is... setting proper voltages and tracking down cold solder joints and such.
All major parts are in great condition
{transport, transport power supply, audio cards, audio power supply}
The remote works perfect.If your looking for a machine that arrives and you hit record and go. This is not the machine for you.
If you want a machine that sounds amazing just passing audio through its transformers,
and with a little work you get to record at +6 to tape, 30 or 15 ips
This Is the machine for you.My price is reasonable just for the parts alone.
comes with the AL II remote. AND a few reels of 499 and 456"

"MCI JH-16 24 track USED $2,599.00
The MCI JH-24 Series of Multitrack Tape Recorders encompasses a number of products, culminating in the JH-24 designation. The different models and revisions are commonly confused.
The original JH-16 Series was a 8 or 16 track recorder based on the JH-10 Tape Transport with relay logic and AC motors, and an AutoLocator - a revolutionary product at the time - was optionally available. With introduction of the JH-100 Tape Transport in 1973 including TTL logic, DC motors, phase lock loop controlled tensioning, ceramic shaft capstan motor, and improved AutoLocator III, the JH-16 designation was originally retained. As 24 track recording evolved, and a new audio electronics package and cabinet were developed, the JH-24 designation was born.
The last time that a major recording magazine did a survey of worldwide audio multitrack tape recorder usage, the MCI JH-24 was still the most widely used such product in the world, just as it had been for many years. But that survey was taken over 10 years after the last unit was manufactured!"
FS: MCI-JH10 2″ 16 TRACK TAPE MACHINE $1,150
Early 70's MCI-JH10 same parts as and predecessor to JH16. Heads are in great shape at least 75% all channels work and are calibrated to +6db. Comes with auto locator II. The bad news is it needs a new transport. Randy Blevins of Blevins Audio in Nashville quoted me $2500 for a fully working complete with power supplies JH100 transport that will drop right in. I was going to fix it up but I'm satisfied with my 3M-M79. Local pick up only. Item is located in Miami, FL. The parts alone especially the heads are worth several times what I'm asking. I hate to part out this gem and I'm hoping to sell it to someone who knows the value and sound or professional analog. 2" 16 track is as fat sounding as they come. What I do is record to analog and then bounce it to protools. If you need more than 16 tracks of analog then simply transfer to DAW and put on a fresh tape. Then stripe the tape with timecode and have the DAW chase the tape. Now you have 32 tracks of the fattest sound ever. I've have done this many times with a simple JL Cooper PPS2. I think I have pics of the heads and cards but I'm not sure. The item is in storage right now. It does power up and light up. VU meters move, signal passes and sounds great just putting it on input enable. Locator II works perfect as well. There are at least $3000 in perfect parts alone on this baby. A little TLC dropping a new transport and you have a gem that will give you years of a secret weapon giving you better sound than any DAW could ever give you. Any engineer with at least 15 years experience will tell you that you can't beat 16 track 2" on drums, guitar and bass.
